Some gatherings leave an impression that lasts well beyond the occasion. Their value comes from the people present, the warmth of the welcome and the opportunity to meet one another with respect.
It was a privilege to attend the majlis of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and a pleasure to meet the distinguished dignitaries, leaders and guests gathered there.
For me, the occasion was a reminder of the human foundations of leadership: hospitality, attentiveness and the willingness to bring people together. In an increasingly connected world, these qualities remain essential. They give relationships a starting point and create the trust upon which meaningful cooperation can grow.
The Majlis: A Tradition with Lasting Relevance
The majlis holds a special place in Emirati life. It provides a setting for conversation, the exchange of perspectives and the strengthening of relationships. Its enduring relevance lies in a simple principle: people understand one another better when they have the opportunity to sit together and listen.
Attending this gathering offered a personal appreciation of that tradition. The presence of distinguished guests brought different experiences into one setting, while the atmosphere of welcome made the occasion memorable.
There is a lesson here for every organisation seeking to build lasting relationships. An introduction becomes valuable when it is followed by genuine interest. A conversation becomes productive when each person feels heard. Trust develops through the quality of these interactions and the care with which they are continued.
The majlis reminds us that progress often begins with something straightforward—a welcome, a conversation and a willingness to understand another person’s perspective.
Tolerance as a Daily Responsibility
The ministerial responsibility of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan places tolerance and coexistence at the centre of this reflection.
These values have practical meaning in daily life. They influence how we receive a guest, how we respond to an unfamiliar viewpoint and how we work with people whose experiences differ from our own. They also shape the quality of professional relationships.
International cooperation requires more than shared commercial interests. It requires respect for the people behind those interests: their culture, aspirations, responsibilities and circumstances. When that respect is present, differences can become a source of understanding and new possibilities.
For those of us working across countries and communities, this is an ongoing responsibility. We must approach each relationship with curiosity, listen carefully and recognise that mutual confidence takes time to earn.
The experience of attending the majlis brought these principles into focus. It encouraged reflection on how we can carry the same spirit of welcome into our own work.
Distinguished Company, Meaningful Connections
It was a pleasure to meet the dignitaries and distinguished guests present at the gathering. Such occasions offer a valuable opportunity to become acquainted with people whose journeys and perspectives may be very different from our own.
Every encounter carries the possibility of learning. A brief exchange may introduce an unfamiliar idea, deepen our understanding of a community or establish a connection worth continuing.
The responsibility lies in how we follow through. Relationships deserve attention beyond the photograph or the occasion. They grow through courtesy, consistency and a sincere interest in one another.
I left with gratitude for the welcome and appreciation for the opportunity to meet those present. The gathering reinforced my belief that strong networks are built through personal respect and strengthened through dependable conduct.
A Reflection for OBS Global
As Chief Business Savior of OBS Global – One Business Season, I see a clear relevance to our own mission of connecting people, businesses and opportunities across borders.
An international business ecosystem depends on the quality of its relationships. Its participants must feel that they are welcomed, understood and able to contribute. Building that environment requires us to pay attention to people as carefully as we pay attention to projects.
The values reflected in the majlis offer an important personal lesson for this work: create space for conversation, respect different perspectives and give every relationship a foundation of trust.
This reflection guides my approach to OBS Global. We seek to bring people together in a spirit of cooperation and to encourage connections that can develop through thoughtful, practical engagement.
Gratitude and the Responsibility to Build Bridges
I extend my sincere appreciation to H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan for the hospitality of his majlis, and to the distinguished dignitaries and guests whose presence made the occasion memorable.
The experience was both an honour and an encouragement. It reminded me that the ability to connect people is a responsibility—one that calls for humility, patience and respect.
As we continue our work across countries and communities, may we carry these qualities into every meeting and every new relationship. The strongest bridges are built by people who make the effort to understand one another.
A gracious welcome can begin a conversation. Mutual respect can turn that conversation into a lasting connection.
